In line with the 500th Anniversary of the Philippine Part in the First Circumnavigation of the World, the Introduction of Christianity into the Philippines, and the Victory at Mactan; and the 450th Araw ng Maynila; the National Historical Commission of the Philippines, the National Quincentennial Committee, in partnership with the City Government of Manila and the Intramuros Administration present the 450th Araw ng Maynila Lecture Series.
This five-part online lecture series will tackle different perspectives on the founding of the Spanish City of Manila in the location of the ancient Maynila, the more than four centuries of history it has endured at the crossroads of cultures and civilizations, and the unique identity its people produced as the capital of the Philippines.
For Episode 2, Philippine Historical Association Public Information Officer and Public Historian Dr.. Michael Charleston “Xiao” B. Chua discusses the myths surrounding the birth of the City of Manila and the unnamed hero that perished in defense of native freedom.
