Six Manila policemen were arrested over an alleged armed robbery in Makati. According to the Makati police, the incident occurred last night on Arsonvel Street in Barangay San Isidro. The victims were allegedly attacked by a group of armed men. The suspects took their personal belongings before fleeing on motorcycles. A pursuit operation by Makati police led to the arrest of the six police officers, who were positively identified by the victims. The names of the suspects have not been released. The Manila Times has reached out to the MPD for a statement, but it has yet to respond.

The country’s economic growth slowed in the fourth quarter of 2025. That’s according to the Philippine Statistics Authority. The gross domestic product slumped by three percent in the fourth quarter. That’s down from four percent in the third quarter and slower than the 5.3 percent recorded in the same period last year.

President Marcos says his son made the right decision to recuse himself from proceedings on his impeachment. As House majority leader, Rep. Sandro Marcos is the chairman of the House Committee on Rules.

President Marcos says he is “back in harness” as he recovers from diverticulitis. Marcos says he will be attending several meetings today. Regarding his health, the president says he was put on a strict liquid diet. Diverticulitis is an inflammation in the wall of the large intestine.

The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) is recommending the removal of imprisonment as a penalty to decriminalize libel and cyber libel. CHR Chairman Richard Palpal-Latoc says prison penalties for defamation have long undermined freedom of expression and weakened press freedom. He says lawmakers must consider amending certain provisions of the Revised Penal Code and the Cybercrime Law. CHR noted that those provisions have been repeatedly weaponized to silence critics.
