Dateline Philippines: The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) issued a tsunami advisory for coastal communities facing the Pacific Ocean following a magnitude 8.8 earthquake off the coast of Russia on Wednesday (July 30).
According to state seismologists, tsunami waves of less than one meter may affect the eastern seaboard, with the first waves expected between 1:20 p.m. and 2:40 p.m. today.
Phivolcs cautioned that initial waves may not be the strongest, and wave activity could persist for several hours.
Authorities urged residents in affected areas to remain alert and follow instructions from local disaster response offices.
