Article III, Section 4 of the 1987 Philippine Constitution states:

“No law shall be passed abridging the freedom of speech, of expression, or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble and petition the government for redress of grievances.”

Meaning:
This provision protects four core freedoms:

1. Freedom of speech – your right to speak your opinions.
2. Freedom of expression – includes art, social media posts, symbols, gestures, etc.
3. Freedom of the press – protects journalists and media from government censorship.
4. Right to peaceful assembly and petition – people can hold rallies, gatherings, or formally ask the government to address issues.
