We finally made it to Intramuros, the historic walled city of Manila โ and what a way to explore it! ๐ด๐ฐ
Instead of walking the cobblestone streets, we hopped aboard a horse-drawn carriage (kalesa) and were shown around by a cheeky but incredibly knowledgeable local guide who brought the history to life with stories, humour, and a few surprises along the way.
From Spanish-era buildings and centuries-old churches to hidden battle scars, old prison gates, and streets that have seen earthquakes, wars, and restorations โ Intramuros has a story around every corner. Add in a smooth-riding carriage, some local insights you wonโt find on a signboard, and plenty of character, and it turned into a memorable way to see one of the oldest parts of the Philippines.
If youโre visiting Manila, this is absolutely one of the most enjoyable ways to experience its history โ relaxed, informative, and full of personality.
