A magnitude 4.4 earthquake struck near Baguio City in northern Philippines on Thursday morning, prompting evacuations and school closures. Initially reported as 4.8, the quake was later downgraded by the state seismology office. The epicenter was in the nearby town of Pugo. Although no major damage was immediately reported, inspections were underway. The quake occurred just 10 days after a deadly tremor in Cebu that killed 74 people, injured over 1,000, and damaged around 72,000 homes. Baguio, a mountain city prone to quakes due to its location on the Pacific “Ring of Fire”, has a history of deadly seismic events.
