President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. leads the groundbreaking ceremony of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) College of Allied Health Sciences Building and conducts an inspection at the Ospital ng Maynila Medical Center (OMMC) in Malate, City of Manila on February 6, 2026.
The new five (5)-storey PLM College of Allied Health Sciences Building will be developed through the conversion and retrofitting of the old Ospital ng Maynila facility. The project aims to strengthen public medical education and expand access to quality training for future healthcare professionals, particularly students from underserved communities in Manila.
The building will feature modern classrooms, laboratories, simulation rooms, research facilities and faculty offices, and will house programs in Medicine, Nursing, Physical Therapy, Medical Technology, Pharmaceutical Sciences and Radiologic Technology.
In addition, the facility is expected to fulfill long-standing infrastructure needs, increase enrollment capacity and improve hands-on clinical training through partnerships with public hospitals.
Founded in 1965, PLM is one of the country’s premier public universities, offering programs in engineering, nursing, medicine, accounting, medical technology, pharmaceutical sciences, radiologic technology and other allied disciplines. In line with the City Government of Manila’s vision to expand access to higher education, the new facility will serve as an integrated academic and clinical hub for PLM’s allied health programs.
Following the groundbreaking ceremony, President Marcos Jr. proceeds to OMMC where he leads the turnover of a check donation worth Php15 million to the President Corazon C. Aquino General Hospital located at Baseco Compound in Port Area, reinforcing government support for accessible public healthcare services.
As part of the inspection, the President tours key facilities at OMMC, including the Mammogram Room, MRI Room, CT Scan Imaging Room and the Cardiovascular Catheterization Laboratory, highlighting the hospital’s role as a major public healthcare provider for Manileños. He also takes the opportunity to personally check on patients in the Pediatric Ward.
