Sen. Jinggoy Estrada is questioning the supposed rags-to-riches story that surfaced in the interview of Sarah and Curlee Discaya with broadcasters Julius Babao and Korina Sanchez.
Estrada questioned how a couple who started from scratch could afford to purchase 59 luxury vehicles, noting their admission that their wealth grew after becoming contractors for the DPWH. The senator says he will ask Sara Discaya who her contact is at the department and how they were able to secure so many transactions.
Meanwhile, the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee will continue its investigation into the allegedly anomalous flood control projects. Senate President Francis Escudero has signed subpoenas for eight contractors who were absent during the last hearing. The committee is also expected to discuss the reported bribery attempt by a DPWH engineer against Batangas Rep. Leandro Leviste.
Estrada adds that Commission on Audit (COA) officials will also be questioned on how “ghost” projects managed to slip past them.
