LIVE: Senate hearing on the proposed 2026 budget of the Office of the Vice President

The Senate Committee on Finance swiftly approved the Office of the Vice President’s (OVP) proposed P902.895-million budget for the fiscal year 2026.

During the hearing, Vice President Sara Duterte and her team presented the OVP’s accomplishments and key programs, including Libreng Sakay, disaster relief operations, and medical and burial assistance. Senators, extending parliamentary courtesy, expressed their support for what Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri described as a “lean and mean budget.”

The proposed 2026 budget is slightly higher than the OVP’s P744.1-million budget for 2025 but significantly lower than its budget in 2023 and 2024, which exceeded P1 billion. The panel approved the budget and submitted it for plenary consideration after manifestations of support from several senators.
