The Senate resumes its investigation into another case of questionable Filipino citizenship, dubbed by senators as “Alice Guo 2.0,” involving businessman Joseph Sy., whose alleged parents are non-existent in Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) records.
In her interpellation, Senator Risa Hontiveros presents PSA documents refuting Joseph Sy.’s claim to Filipino parentage, revealing his extensive business interests in the Philippine mining sector which are supposedly reserved for Filipinos. Senators also probe his previous membership in the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary.
In a separate privilege speech, Senator Robin Padilla makes an emotional appeal for the establishment of nursing homes in every city and province to care for the country’s growing elderly population, especially those suffering from dementia and Alzheimer’s. The proposal is discussed by Senators Erwin Tulfo, Loren Legarda, and Bato dela Rosa.
Meanwhile, Senate Minority Leader Vicente “Tito” Sotto III calls out the Civil Service Commission (CSC) for its chairperson’s statement that no law prohibits government employees from gambling in casinos, citing several presidential decrees and memorandum circulars that explicitly forbid it.
