A magnitude 8.8 earthquake struck off Russia’s Far Eastern Kamchatka Peninsula on Wednesday, damaging buildings and generating a tsunami of up to 4 meters (13 feet) that prompted warnings and evacuations stretching across the Pacific Ocean.
Huge waves were seen reaching the coastline of Hokkaido in Japan after the said earthquake.
Meanwhile, a nearly empty shoreline and mostly deserted streets are seen in Honolulu, Hawaii, as tsunami threats loom following the magnitude 8.8 earthquake.
In the coastal areas of the eastern side of the Philippines fronting the Pacific Ocean were expected to experience tsunamis of less than one meter, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology warned on Wednesday morning.
However, the tsunami advisory was lifted later in the afternoon. #GMAIntegratedNews #BreakingNews #SONA2025
