A magnitude 8.8 earthquake struck off Russia’s Far Eastern Kamchatka Peninsula on Wednesday, damaging buildings and generating a tsunami of up to 4 meters (13 feet) that prompted warnings and evacuations stretching across the Pacific Ocean.

Coastal areas in the eastern side of the Philippines fronting the Pacific Ocean are expected to experience tsunami of less than one meter, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology warned on Wednesday morning.

PHIVOLCS seismologists said the first tsunami waves are expected to arrive between 1:20 PM to 2:40 PM, July 30. They said it may not be the largest and the waves may continue for hours.
