House Speaker Martin Romualdez recently responded to accusations by Vice President Sara Duterte, who alleged a plot against her life involving him, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., and First Lady Liza Marcos. Romualdez dismissed these claims as “baseless” and a strategic distraction from the ongoing investigation into Duterte’s use of confidential and intelligence funds, amounting to over ₱600 million.
Romualdez emphasized that his role as Speaker is to serve the Filipino people, not to engage in political attacks. He urged Duterte to answer the questions surrounding the fund misuse, emphasizing that “accountability is not optional” and transparency is crucial for public trust. He further stated that attempts to create division within the government are harmful to democracy and must be addressed with unity and dialogue
