Ayon sa barangay, isang mag live-in partner na nag-away ang hinihinalang nagsimula ng sunog at posibleng nagtago na umano ang mga ito.
Ayon pa sa Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), dahil dikit-dikit ang mga bahay ay mabilis na kumalat ang apoy at agad na itinaas sa ikalawang alarma ang sunog.
