Philippines Senate LIVE: Senate Blue Ribbon Committee Hearing on Anomalous Flood Control Projects | CNBC TV18
The Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, led by Senator Rodante Marcoleta, continues its investigation into alleged widespread corruption in government flood control projects. Lawmakers are looking into the involvement of a possible syndicate after it was revealed that a small group of contractors were awarded the majority of these infrastructure projects.
The committee has issued subpoenas to several contractors who failed to attend the initial hearings. The probe was initiated after President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. called for a review of flood mitigation programs and questioned the “disproportionate concentration and awarding of projects to a selected group of contractors.” The investigation also looks into so-called “ghost projects” where funding is allocated for projects that have already been completed.
Some contractors attended the motu proprio inquiry, including Alex Abelido of Legacy Construction Corporation, and Sarah Discaya, who has been the subject of controversy following a series of interview features flexing her luxury car collection. The videos resurfaced after Pasig Mayor Vico Sotto flagged them as alleged undeclared paid placements.
