Thousands of protesters across the Philippines—backed by Roman Catholic clergy, activists, and civil society groups—took to the streets on Sunday to demand the swift prosecution of top lawmakers and government officials implicated in a massive corruption scandal. The controversy, linked to billions lost in substandard or non-existent flood control projects, has intensified public outrage and put President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. under mounting pressure.

In Manila, left-wing groups held a separate mass rally at Rizal Park, calling for implicated officials to resign immediately and face trial. More than 17,000 police officers were deployed across the capital as key roads, bridges, and the Malacañang Palace complex were placed on tight lockdown with barricades, trucks, and riot shields.
