Dateline Philippines: House lawmaker Leandro Leviste will file a complaint against a DPWH district engineer. Leviste’s statement comes after a DPWH official was arrested for trying to bribe him.
Batangas Rep. Leandro Leviste is set to file a complaint against a DPWH district engineer who allegedly tried to bribe him with P3.1 million to stop his investigation into substandard and damaged flood control projects in his district.
Meanwhile, Manila Rep. Bienvenido Abante challenges Baguio Mayor Benjamin Magalong to name the lawmakers allegedly pocketing 30-40% in kickbacks from infrastructure projects. Abante also voiced his support for Rep. Leviste’s case against the DPWH official.
In the Senate, Sen. Jinggoy Estrada questions the “rags-to-riches” story of contractors who admitted their wealth grew after securing projects from the DPWH. The Senate Blue Ribbon Committee is set to resume its own investigation into anomalous flood control projects and will tackle the bribery attempt against Rep. Leviste.
