On September 21, 2025, what began as a peaceful anti‑corruption protest in Manila escalated into violent clashes in Mendiola and Ayala Bridge. Protesters—some masked youths—hurled stones, bottles, and Molotov cocktails at police officers. A trailer truck used as a barricade was set on fire, and a police motorcycle was also torched.

According to police reports, around 17 individuals were arrested in connection with throwing projectiles and setting fires, some of whom are minors. Scores of police officers and some demonstrators were injured, and a journalist was struck in the face while covering the event. Tear gas, water cannons, and long‑range acoustic devices were used to disperse the crowds.

The protest was part of the wider “Baha sa Luneta” movement, demanding accountability for flood control and infrastructure corruption. What started as chants and banners ended with barricades breached, flames lit, and violence spreading into Mendiola.
