A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 6.7 struck Papua province in Indonesia on Thursday, October 16, 2025. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the quake occurred at a depth of 70 km (43.5 miles). The epicenter was located approximately 200 km from the city of Abepura, which has a population of over 62,000. Despite the quake’s strength, no tsunami warning was issued, and authorities have not reported any casualties or significant damage at this time. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center confirmed that no tsunami threat was posed by the earthquake.
