The forgotten traditional clothing of Mega Manila, 1201–1934
This is based only on the National Costumes of the Philippines from the Luther Parker scrapbook collection.
Though there is no legislated national attire in the Philippines—especially when viewed through the lens of the Luther Parker Scrapbook—is that the country’s identity is far too vast to be captured by a single needle and thread.
The absence of a law isn’t a sign of a missing identity; rather, it is a silent recognition of diversity. Much like the sketches in the Parker Scrapbook, the “National Costume” of the Philippines is best understood as a collective gallery of many different people, rather than a single uniform.
